Acuvue’s Fun Shootings

In early July, we had a project for Acuvue who wanted to make a digital viral video that would also be used for cinema. They wanted to emphasize the ease and worry free aspects of wearing contact lenses.

This was the first project that I handled from the early stage. From the pre-production steps, including doing the casting part from asking the talent coordinator to look for the talents, waiting for the talents to show up at our office, briefing the talents, and shooting them during the casting days, and also to prepare everything regarding the shooting day and the post production. And this project is the one with so many wardrobes and accessories because we’re inserting the slices of life in the video. Due the numbers of wardrobes and accessories that we need to find for the video and photo shoot, we asked Abam to help us find them. But we were also looking for things we have, like Tasha who lent some of her earrings and her dresses (including her wedding dress), and me who brought the traveller’s backpack (which was stuffed with pillows, so comfy!) and some more props like party clutch, glasses, and we also looked for some more things when we were going out in the mall.

All things are set, and here’s the shooting day.

First thing first, we started with Marcella, the doctor slash violinist. Actually, we were going to use her for the future advertorial by Acuvue but being efficient, we squeezed her between her busy schedule in our video shooting day. She came early in the morning and brought one huge suitcase filled with her beautiful dresses and hair accessories. During the photoshoot, she played along some classical tunes, it felt like we were in a European castle, and she also played some cartoon soundtrack tunes to cheer up the mood 😀

After we have finished Marcella’s photo shoot session, we continued with Rani’s video shoot for the beauty steps. A story from Rani, since she came from Manado, she doesn’t know Jakarta really well and she got a little bit lost on the shooting day, but luckily she came right on time and didn’t make the shooting to be late. So let’s start rolling the cam! We started her shooting by doing her step by step make up. The most funny thing during Rani’s shoot is when she had to spray face mist to her face. At first, she looked shocked by the sprays of the water, but later on she has mastered the art of spraying water all over your face and still looking beautiful.

And then we continued with Lukas, the only male talent of the day who has been on the set since early in the morning because he went to the studio with Abam. He fell asleep in the studio while waiting for his turn for shooting. I feel bad for him because he had to wait for so long and finished so late. When Lukas has just started, Olga came and we decided to mix their photoshoots and shootings because we needed different lightings for each shots. A funny story from this part of shooting is when we tried to break the glasses worn by Lukas, they were supposed to be broken while he was playing basketball. It turned out the glasses were very elastic and they could not be broken easily. We had smashed the glasses into the floor, hit them with basketball, and all we got were only broken lenses. So it was the time for Sigit to the rescue! We had tried to bend the glasses but it didn’t work, so Sigit decided to twist the glasses and finally we had broken glasses. Yeaaay! For Olga, she was really easy to work with, and she’s also friendly and she was always laughing, even she was also laughing at herself when she tried the wig on.

Well, it was a really fun shooting indeed. We had fun while shooting and Mr. Rian, our client from J&J, also gave so many helps by giving guides on step by step of wearing the contact lenses, and also giving more ideas about their facial expressions. Thumbs up for the whole crew especially Dennis who was the man of the day, he had prepared everything, from the pre production, thw whole day of production, tp post production. Also thumbs up for the J&J team, Mr. Rian and Anggi, even though they were fasting, they were still in high spirit all day long, from early in the morning until we wrapped it up at around 10 at night.

Tasha, Dennis, and our forgotten suitcase which almost got lost twice in a day

PS: There’s one it-was-stressful-but-now-it’s-funny behind the scene story.. We had put all the props and costumes for the shooting day into a suitcase to take to the final pre-production meeting for final approval, and the first accident was we had our lunch at the food court at the building and we headed up to have our meeting. When we arrived in their office, we realised that we left the suitcase at the food court! We went down straight back to retrieve it and luckily it was still there.

The second accident was a few hours later when we returned to our office and watched the taxi drive off only to realise that there was something missing. OMG! It was the suitcase! Shoot! We totally forgot about the suitcase we had put in the baggage of the taxi. We were so stressed out and afraid that we wouldn’t get the suitcase back. We called the taxi company and finally they tracked down the taxi which was already taking a passenger to Bekasi while our office is in Tanjung Barat (and to recall that it was around the maghrib time during the fasting season, so you can imagine what traffic was like). The driver said he would return the suitcase after he dropped off his passenger in Bekasi and he did return it later at night. Phew! Two accidents in a row which made us have a panic attack! So, never forget that you put a suitcase in the taxi’s baggage, otherwise you will be stressed like us 😛
